Project Overview

Taproot Law is a consulting firm located in Michigan's Upper Peninsula who provides legal counseling services. I had the privilege of working with taproot to revise their webpage and make it more accessible and efficient for its users. I and several other group members conducted user research through methods including surveys and affinity diagrams to find key issues plaguing the site and developed a report of our findings and also included potential ideas for solving these issues through the use of prototypes.

Survey Results

This survey was designed to have participants access Taproot's website and navigate through it to complete a series of tasks provided in the multiple questions. They were then asked to rate their experience in terms of how easy or difficult it was for them to navigate to particular pages. In addition, they were asked if they had any further suggestions, comments, or concerns regarding Taproot's website. Once all the responses were gathered, we analyzed the data we received and organized the responses in an affinity diagram in which is provided below.

With all the responses consolidated, we organized key responses into an Affinity Diagram having the content divided into three categories. These categories allowed us to differentiate positive and negative feedback along with some suggestions given. We analyzed these responses and developed a presentation we would present to Taproot providing them with our key takeaways and our recommendations for their website moving forward.

Our prototype provides Taproot with a visual demonstration of how we envisioned our recommendations would look in practice. The key elements we have altered include:

  • Reducing the size of the logo and background imagery

  • Increasing the size of navigation tabs to increase legibility

  • Reducing the amount of scrolling needed by users to locate particular information

Final Takeaways

  • First time working with actual clients.

  • Gained more experience with conducting user research and utilizing particular researching methods including Affinity Diagrams, Card-Sorts, and Surveys.

  • Regardless of whether or not Taproot decides to utilize our design prototype, we hope we provided Taproot with necessary recommendations that may improve their digital presence.
